We are thrilled to announce our 2007 litter!  This is a litter that I thought would
never happen.  I had originally planned to breed Zin in 2005.  However, in
February of 2005, Zin's litter sister, Tia, began spilling sugar in her urine -- an early
sign of Fanconi syndrome.  Because there was no test for fanconi at the time, I
chose not to breed Zin.  I just couldn't risk producing other puppies with fanconi.

Fast forward two years.  Zin was now turning 6 years old.  In my mind, this was
the last year I felt okay breeding her for the first time.  After this, I felt she would
be too old for a first litter.  I don't know if it was just good fortune, karma or
something else, but a
linkage marker test for fanconi became available in July of
2007!  With this test, I would finally be able to determine Zin's fanconi status and
possibly breed her.

Well, the results are in, and Zin is a carrier for fanconi.
 This means that she
will never have fanconi, and as long as she is bred to a clear dog,
none of her puppies would ever have fanconi.
 Once again, as luck
would have it, the dog I most wanted to breed her to, my Firbi, is clear for fanconi
by parentage (his sire and dam are both clear for fanconi).

Because Zin is sired by my first champion, CH Lacada's Chubby Checker, I invited
my good friend Dallas Hunt, Lacada Basenjis, to co-breed this litter with me.  All of
the puppies will carry the Echelon-Lacada prefix, and this will be the "I" litter.

From this breeding we expect gorgeous heads with tons of wrinkle and tiny ears,
dark red coats, good toplines, pretty movement and spectacular temperaments.  I
believe Firbi is pure for red, but if he does carry tri, then we might have some
tricolor puppies, too!!

Both Zin and Firbi have amazing temperaments.  Firbi -- even during the height of
breeding season when any shred of common sense has "left the building" --
absolutely loves my 14 month old daughter and will tolerate every hug, kiss and
(occasionally too enthusiastic petting) that comes his direction.  Zin has served as a
"demonstration" dog at the university where I work in classrooms of 100+ students
with nary a blink of the eye.  Both of them seem to have missed the portion of the
breed standard that reads "aloof."  Their puppies will be raised around small
children and cats, and should be confident, affectionate companions.

At this time, we think all of the puppies are spoken for, but if you would like more
information about this litter, or about our puppy placement policies, please
