Gone but never forgotten

Echelon Destined To Dance
"Tia"
Female Basenji
03.10.01 - 08.10.07

Tia was the first puppy born from the first basenji litter I bred. From
the beginning, she made life interesting.  She was born in the car on
the way to the vet's office and spent the trip home under my shirt
to stay warm.  Tia was always the sweetest, most loving girl.  Any
new visitor to the house was greeted with Tia inching her way
across the sofa, tail going 90 miles an hour as she crawled into their
lap to give kisses.  Standoffish was never in her vocabulary.

Tia was diagnosed with fanconi two years ago.  She seemed to
thrive on the protocol and was never "sick" until the last three
months.  Her kidney failure seemed to come on quickly and with a
vengeance.  At the end, the vet gave her only about two weeks to
live.  She made it another 45 days until she told me it was time to
let go.

I will always miss my sweet, yodeling, tail-waggy girl.

"Gillian"
Female Doberman Pinscher
09.06.97 - 04.25.06

Gillian was, by far, the best obedience dog I've ever worked with.
Even when you swore she wasn't paying any attention, she knew
exactly where you were and what you were doing.  Typical red
dobie girl, she loved to bark and talk and carry on.  Although she
was 8.5 years old, she didn't look or act a day over 3.  Out of the
blue, she suffered a stroke at the end of March.  Heavy steroid
doses helped her regain much of the strength in her legs, although
she still couldn't walk without assistance.  Mid-April, she began to
regress and then suffered another stroke.  Although her mind was
completely unchanged, Gillie's body had given up the fight, and the
decision was made to help her cross over.
"Salem"
Male black DSH cat
08.24.93 - 01.13.06
Taken too soon due to kidney failure.  Salem was my first cat, even
though he was convinced he was a dog.  He was sure Jasmine was
his mom, and I find great relief in knowing that they are united
once again.  Salem babysat all of the puppies born here -- he was
the best babysitter I could have asked for.

"Czar"
Male Doberman Pinscher
05.19.95 - 02.01.05
Czar was the epitome of what a doberman should be -- kind and
loving, protective when he should be, goofy and clownlike but
elegant and regal.  Czar had been suffering from a degenerative
neuropathy that progressed to the point he couldn't walk without
assistance.
"Jasmine"
Female Australian Shepherd/Siberian Husky Mix
11.26.92 - 08.14.02
Taken too soon due to kidney cancer.  The best "fuzzy mutt dog"
anyone could ask for.

"H
uggy"
Jockey Club registered name -- Bold Blazen
17.1h bay Thoroughbred gelding

0
2.25.95 - 02.25.08

H
uggy had lameness issues for most of his life, but he had a very dramatic decline in the
past couple weeks -- spending more of his time lying down than standing up.  The vets
determined that there was extensive deterioration in his hocks and stifles as well as
potential deterioration in his back.  Combined with his preexisting lameness issues in his
front feet, all three vets that examined him agreed that the most humane thing to do
would be to help end his suffering.
Huggy was a true gentle giant and a once in a lifetime horse.  I take comfort in
knowing that he is completely pain free for the first time in a very long time.
He entered this world exactly 13 years to the date he left it -- much too soon.
